Privacy Policy

Chronicle Vault is built to work offline, on your own machine, with your project files staying on your own computer. This policy explains the few places where data does pass through us or a service we use, and what happens to it.

What Chronicle Vault the application does not do

Chronicle Vault does not have an account system, does not sync your projects to a cloud service, and does not transmit the contents of your Lockboxes anywhere. Your characters, chapters, notes, and everything else you write stay in encrypted or plain files on your own computer, the same way they would in a word processor that saves locally.

We do not collect telemetry, usage analytics, or crash reports from inside the application.

License validation

When you activate Chronicle Vault with a purchased license, the application contacts our license provider, Lemon Squeezy, to confirm the license is valid and to record that activation against your account. This check exists only to verify your license and enforce the device limit attached to your purchase. It does not transmit anything about your projects, your writing, or how you use the app.

Because Chronicle Vault is built to work fully offline, it does not require a live connection every time you open it. After a successful check, your license status is cached locally on your device, separate from your Lockbox files, and the app continues to work normally without internet access for an extended period. Chronicle Vault will periodically attempt to revalidate when you do have a connection, but a temporary lack of internet access will not lock you out of your own work.

If you reach your device limit (for example, after replacing a computer), you can manage and free up device activations directly through Lemon Squeezy's customer portal. We do not need to be involved in that process, though you're welcome to reach out if you run into trouble.

Purchases and payment processing

All purchases of Chronicle Vault are handled by Lemon Squeezy, who acts as the merchant of record for every sale. When you buy Chronicle Vault, Lemon Squeezy collects whatever information is needed to process that transaction, which may include your name, email address, billing address, and payment details. We never see or store your full payment information ourselves.

Lemon Squeezy's handling of your payment data is governed by their own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review.

Lemon Squeezy shares with us the information necessary to fulfill your order and manage your license, generally your email address and license/order details. We use this only to support you as a customer, for example, to help you with a license issue if you contact us.

This website

This website is hosted as a set of static files. Our hosting provider may log basic technical information common to virtually all web servers, such as IP address, the page requested, and the time of the request. We do not currently run any analytics or tracking scripts on this site. If that changes in the future (for example, if we add a privacy-respecting analytics tool to understand traffic), we'll update this policy to reflect it.

The theme you select on this website is remembered using your browser's local storage so it persists if you revisit. This stays on your device and is never sent to us.

If you contact us

If you email support@chronicle-vault.com, we'll have your email address and whatever you choose to tell us, used only to respond to you and resolve whatever you wrote in about. We don't add support contacts to a mailing list or use that information for anything beyond answering you.

Changes to this policy

If anything about how Chronicle Vault or this website handles data changes, we'll update this page and adjust the "last updated" date above. We won't make changes that reduce your privacy without making that change clearly visible here.
